Gas Mask is an indica-leaning line from Cherry Pie and Alien Kush that Pacific NW Roots developed with Exotic Genetix; the information on the exact pedigree differs.
A supplier of THCA hemp flower has published an analysis result for a greenhouse-grown batch of Gas Mask: 25.989 % THCA with 0.286 % delta-9-THC and a terpene content of 1.725 %. In the terpene profile of this single measurement, β-caryophyllene ranks first, followed by humulene, limonene and linalool. The supplier traces the plants back to Alien Kush F2 and Cherry Pie, and thus to the line that Pacific NW Roots developed together with Exotic Genetix under the name Gasmask.
The supplier does not state which laboratory examined the sample. In the terpene profile, the measurement differs from other strain descriptions: one puts limonene ahead of linalool and myrcene, another myrcene ahead of caryophyllene and limonene.
Without reference to a specific measurement, strain descriptions give 17 to 22 % THC. One of them lists 1 % CBD, another 1 % each of CBG and THCV.
According to Pacific NW Roots, the starting point was a Cherry Pie cutting with purple tones, heavy resin coverage and a pronounced gasoline smell. The breeder links its intoxicating effect to the plant's Durban heritage; Cherry Pie itself is listed as a cross of Durban Poison and GDP.
How the cross is built exactly is not consistent across the information available. The breeder's description lists two formulas side by side: an F2 of Cherry Pie and Alien Kush, crossed with Cherry Pie × Starfighter, and elsewhere Cherry Pie × Alien Kush F2, crossed with itself. A pedigree that follows the first variant names Cherry Alien from Pacific NW Roots as the mother side, assigns the Alien Kush F2 to OG Raskal Genetics and the Starfighter F2 to Exotic Genetix, which in turn traces back to Starfighter from Alien Genetics. Other strain descriptions speak of a backcross of the hybrid of Cherry Pie and Alien Kush F2, of a four-way cross of Cherry Pie and Fire Alien Kush F2, or of Gas X × Cherry Alien.
Pacific NW Roots has crossed the strain into further lines, for example Da Mask from Duh × Gas Mask and Hash Mask from Kaya's Koffee × Gasmask. A Canadian producer also lists a cross of Platinum Kush and Gas Mask.
According to Pacific NW Roots, some phenotypes show a lemon note, while most lean toward the gasoline side of Cherry Pie and toward GDP. Strain descriptions mention a fuel smell with a trace of overripe citrus fruit, plus earthy and skunky tones; in flavor, diesel, coffee, a chemical note, cherry, berries and herbs appear. User reports describe a pungent smell of skunk and diesel with cherry and citrus, and one report notes a nutty cocoa tone on the finish. Another considers the flavor mediocre.
The user reports reviewed describe mainly a relaxing, physically heavy effect, often combined with drowsiness, tingling and euphoria. Several consumers say the effect sets in with a delay and lasts a long time. Individual reports differ and mention a clear, focused or even energizing effect. Dry mouth and dry eyes are named as side effects; one report describes dizziness, headaches and nervousness.
Pacific NW Roots released Gasmask as regular seeds; according to the strain information, feminized seeds never existed. According to the breeder, the predominantly indica-leaning plant suits indoor and outdoor cultivation; 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, a medium yield and a medium height are given. One strain description depicts long, spade-shaped flowers in light mint green with dark amber hairs and a thick layer of almost clear trichomes.
Plants whose stated lineage differs from the line of Pacific NW Roots are also in circulation under the name Gas Mask. A Canadian producer lists its Gas Mask as OG Kush × Diesel, states 27 to 33 % THC on the label along with alpha-pinene and myrcene, and describes a sweet flavor with hints of chocolate and coffee. A hemp flower supplier from Oregon describes its Gas Mask as a phenotype of Grape Pie × Jet Fuel Gelato.
