Brand product, introduced in Canada in 2016 via Tweed; parent lines not disclosed, seeds not documented. Leafs By Snoop is a brand, not a proven breeder.
Sunset
also known as Sunset OG, Cali Sunset, Miami Sunset, Cali Sunset, Miami Sunset
Sunset is an indica-leaning strain from the brand Leafs By Snoop with unknown genetics, described with an earthy, spicy aroma of pine, pepper and clove.
Pine, earth and a peppery spice that some consumers read as clove: descriptions of Sunset converge on this profile. It is an indica-leaning strain with which the brand Leafs By Snoop started in Canada in 2016, alongside Ocean View and Palm Tree CBD. It is not known which parent lines it contains. The dried flowers are regarded as rather small and dense; they are described as dark to olive green, with heavy trichome coverage and orange hairs.
Aroma and Flavor:
The descriptions differ in detail. One strain description names a spicy, floral scent with fresh earth and pine wood, followed on the exhale by anise, some fruit and wood. Another summarizes the profile as earthy and spicy and adds ammonia, wood and a chemical note.
A user report from 2017 records grassy pine, leather, a hint of clove and moss, and finds the flavor rather subdued. Another report picks up pine, ammonia and clove in the smell; in a vaporizer, black pepper and an impression of cleaning product were added. Still others tasted wood with some citrus, and two reports found the smell unpleasant.
Among the predominant terpenes, 3 strain descriptions list caryophyllene and myrcene. Of these, 2 also name limonene, and 2 name carene and sabinene.
Genetics and Origin:
Leafs By Snoop launched in Colorado in November 2015. In Canada, Tweed of Smiths Falls, Ontario, announced the brand's first 3 strains in October 2016, initially only for customers registered with Tweed. The communications at the time said nothing about genetics. One strain description attributes this to the breeder's secrecy and classifies Sunset as a hybrid with 70 % indica and 30 % sativa. Another lists the strain as pure indica, with the aliases Sunset OG, Cali Sunset and Miami Sunset.
A single user report from 2018 takes Sunset to be a brand name for Sour Kush from DNA Genetics, which Tweed also sold in 2017 under the breeder's name. As a descendant, one strain description names Sunset MAC from Qwest Reserve, a cross of Sunset and Miracle Alien Cookies.
Effects:
User reports mostly describe strong physical relaxation, often accompanied by tiredness and appetite. Several consumers report that they barely moved from the couch afterwards and that the effect lasted for hours. Others describe a slow start, with the effect building only gradually. There are also reports of euphoria and giddiness, and a few of creativity or focus. Not everyone finds the strain strong: individual reports found it weak or hardly tiring.
Reported side effects include dry mouth, dry or reddened eyes, headache and short-lived nervousness; strain descriptions add dizziness. Two reports found the smoke harsh.
THC and CBD Content:
The figures contradict each other. One strain description gives 18 % THC, another 24 to 30 %; a third gives 0.52 to 0.89 % CBD. User reports from 2017 to 2021 give package figures between 19 % and more than 30 % THC, and the report with the highest value gives less than 1 % CBD. Which genetics and which batch the individual values refer to cannot be determined from the sources.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Pheno Finder Seeds sells a genetically different strain under the name Sunset, also referred to as Sherbet. According to the breeder's description, it is Sunset Sherbet, a cross of Girl Scout Cookies and the indica Pink Panties. Pheno Finder Seeds offers it only in feminized form, states 9 weeks of flowering and a medium yield, and describes it as suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation. At the Amsterdam Cannabis Cup 2017, the Pheno Finder entry, listed there as Sunset Sherbet, took 3rd place in the category for flower from seed banks.
