also known as P.P.D., PPD
Purple Panty Dropper, now listed as P.P.D., is an indica-dominant triple cross of Matanuska Mist, Oregon Grape and Purple Haze from Humboldt Seed Company.
P.P.D. is the name under which Humboldt Seed Company, from the Emerald Triangle in northern California, now lists the strain Purple Panty Dropper; the breeder mentions the full name only as the former one. It describes the strain as an original breeding of the house, and the brand's European sales site presents it as its flagship strain. Genetically it is a triple cross of Matanuska Mist, Oregon Grape and Purple Haze, which the breeder labels BX8, a pointer to a line stabilised through repeated backcrossing.
In published pedigrees, Matanuska Mist appears as a cross of Matanuska Tundra and Grey Mist, and Oregon Grape as a combination of AK-47 and White Widow. Purple Haze contributes a purple Haze expression. Humboldt Seed Company classes the result as indica-dominant with a noticeable sativa influence; other strain descriptions put the ratio at 70 % indica to 30 % sativa.
A cultivation company in Humboldt County ran its own phenotype under the number 7 but has since taken it out of production. The breeder in turn used the strain as a parent: Blueberry Muffin arose from Razzleberry and Purple Panty Dropper. Strawberry Cheesecake is listed as a further offspring.
Humboldt Seed Company states 18 to 25 % THC and 0.1 % CBD, which marks the strain as THC-dominant. Another strain description gives a single value of 22 % THC and additionally 1 % CBG.
Sweet and floral, with a note reminiscent of Concord grapes: this is how the breeder sums up the scent of the flowers. Other strain descriptions add plum and lavender, and another stresses earthy and musky tones as well as a peppery sharpness in the smoke.
Consumers also describe blueberry, vanilla, black tea and jasmine, and individual reports mention orange, nuts or a chocolatey finish. One report found the fruitiness so dominant that the actual cannabis taste disappeared behind it. Strain descriptions name limonene, myrcene and caryophyllene as the predominant terpenes; the cultivation company from Humboldt County lists myrcene, α-pinene and limonene first for its phenotype, followed by β-pinene, caryophyllene and humulene.
The breeder describes the effect as euphoric and mood-lifting. In the user reports, euphoria, a lifted mood and relaxation recur, accompanied by a tingling in the body and a sensually stimulating component, which the strain's name also alludes to. Some report creativity and focus or became talkative, others increasingly tired.
Impressions differ on strength. Some describe a strong, long-lasting effect, others found it mild to disappointing. Two consumers found the strain predominantly head-centred despite its indica classification, and one of them found the initial phase unpleasant. Reported side effects are dry mouth and dry eyes, occasionally also nervousness.
According to Humboldt Seed Company, the strain forms large plants with even growth, high yield and moderately dense purple flowers. Indoors the breeder estimates around 50 days of flowering, outdoors a harvest between 20 September and 5 October. The European sales site rates the plant height as medium and presupposes some prior cultivation skill. Other strain descriptions give longer flowering times and in part also consider the strain suitable for beginners; one of them calls it well suited to Sea of Green and SCROG.
The breeder also offers an autoflower variant based on Purple Panty Dropper and a ruderalis line. A total cycle of 80 to 100 days is given for it, while other figures are considerably lower.
Feminized seed with the same pedigree is also marketed by Crop King Seeds and Growers Choice Seeds, besides Humboldt Seed Company. Crop King Seeds states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, an outdoor harvest in mid-September and 20 to 25 % THC. Growers Choice Seeds gives 50 to 65 days of flowering and 25 % THC; the supplier also notes that cooler nights intensify the purple coloration.
