No breeder known by name; “Clone Only Strains” is the source's collective term for pure clone-only strains. According to Devil's Harvest, the original clone is considered lost.
Shoreline
Shoreline is a Skunk clone from the Sensi Skunk line, selected in Texas, which Devil's Harvest brought into seed form as a feminized S1 line.
From the 6th week of flowering, Shoreline turns purple according to Devil's Harvest, and at about the same time the plant starts to fill the room with its smell. The name stands for a Skunk clone selected in Texas from the Sensi Skunk line, which The Devil's Harvest Seed Company turned into a feminized S1 line in seed form.
Genetics and Origin:
According to the breeder, an old Sensi Skunk reached the USA and was selected there by a group in Texas. It got its name from a Grateful Dead concert at the Shoreline Amphitheater, which one strain description places in California and another in Texas. The clone is said to have appeared in the 1980s; one description attributes it directly to Sensi Seeds as an older phenotype of Sensi Skunk.
According to Devil's Harvest, the original specimen is considered lost. To preserve the genetics, someone from the Texan group crossed Shoreline with an Oasis male from Dutch Passion and selected a clone again from the offspring. Devil's Harvest works with this clone; the S1 seeds came from it through selfing. Via Skunk #1, the lineage traces back to Afghan indica and Colombian and Mexican sativa.
Whether indica or sativa dominates remains open: descriptions of the Devil's Harvest version give 60 % indica, another strain description 80 %, and a third speaks of a sativa-leaning hybrid.
At the 25th High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 2012, Shoreline placed 2nd in the main category; at the Highlife Cup 2018 it took 3rd place in the Skunk Strains category. An Amsterdam coffeeshop submitted the strain both times. One strain description moves the 2012 Cup to Spain.
Cultivation:
Devil's Harvest gives 60 to 65 days for flowering but calls it an 8-week strain in the same text. Other descriptions of the version state 55 to 65 days; 2 documented indoor grows ended after 62 and 66 days. The strain is said to suit indoor and outdoor cultivation, outdoors mainly in warm climates; one description dates the outdoor harvest to late September through October. Several descriptions rate the yield as high.
The texts contradict each other on difficulty. The breeder considers Shoreline very easy to grow, while other descriptions call it hard to master and, because of the high level of attention it needs, not well suited to beginners.
The pink, purple and red coloring is regarded as a trait of the strain, and grow reports confirm purple tones in the second half of flowering. The smell sets in early there and grows stronger week by week. One report describes airy, sticky buds with a lot of trim when trimming and a yield of roughly 11 ounces from 5 plants under 400 watts. Observations on stretch differ: in one grow it stayed low, in another it was moderate, with the plant growing from about 40 to around 60 cm. The same report mentions few short side shoots, a poor response to topping the main stem, sensitivity to fluctuating fertilizing and a tendency toward hermaphroditism.
Aroma and Flavor:
The breeder counts Shoreline among the most pungent strains the company has worked with: an old Skunk aroma that carries over unchanged into the flavor. Strain descriptions add sweet and earthy notes and, depending on the source, cheese, citrus, pine or pepper. Grow reports mention mint, wood and a rotten undertone, and melon in the flavor. Myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene are named as the dominant terpenes. One description and some users find the smoke harsh.
Effects:
User accounts describe the effect as euphoric and creative, in some cases as relaxing and body-centered. Grow reports speak of a strong, psychedelic-seeming high with a sedating component up to couch lock, while other users found Shoreline more stimulating and focused. Dry mouth, dry eyes and paranoia are mentioned, in isolated cases also a racing heartbeat, feelings of anxiety and headaches.
THC Content:
Descriptions of the Devil's Harvest version give 19 to 21 % THC. Other strain descriptions state 18 to 23 % or 9 to 20.5 %.
Versions from Different Breeders:
The Texan original clone is passed on only as a cutting and sometimes appears under the name Texas Shoreline. Seed is documented only for the feminized S1 line from Devil's Harvest, which goes back to the clone from the Oasis cross. Texas Shoreline by Kaiser Selects is a strain of its own, with Shoreline as one parent; the producer gives the second as Sky Walker OG, while one strain description lists it as unknown. Other descendants are Off Shore, Detroit Diesel, Shoreline Sour Diesel and Shoreline × Puck BC2.
